石川県生まれ。九谷焼の初代徳田八十吉、北出塔次郎らに師事し、古九谷の再現、現代の九谷焼の発展に尽力。伝統的な技法を基礎に、花鳥を主とする独特の意匠を施し、1996年、九谷焼作家として初めて文化勲章を受章。

Born in Ishikawa Prefecture. He studied under the first Yasokichi Tokuda and Tojiro Kitade, contributing to the reproduction of old Kutani ware and the development of contemporary Kutani ware. Based on traditional techniques, he created unique designs mainly featuring flowers and birds. In 1996, he became the first Kutani ware artist to receive the Order of Culture.
