「作品に描かれている巨大なあざらしのような生き物は、南極観測船が宗谷だったころに乗組員が見たという南極ゴジラ、鯨の位置をうばわんとする海豹（アザラシ）が、もし本当に鯨になってしまったらという想像から来ている。」（出原）

″The giant creature resembling a seal depicted in the artwork is inspired by the Antarctic Godzilla, a seal said to have been seen by the crew of the Antarctic observation ship Soya, with which aspired to take the place of whales, with the imagination of what would happen if the seal actually turned into a whale.″（IZUHARA）
